How to Hang a Picture Straight Using Your Phone
A frame can look straight from one side of a room and still be tilted. Check the frame edge directly before making the final adjustment.
Before you hang it
- Choose the height and lightly mark the wall.
- Check that the hanging hardware is suitable for the frame and wall.
- Position the frame, but leave enough movement for a final adjustment.
Level the frame
- Place the phone’s straight edge along the top edge of the frame, not the wall beside it.
- Wait for Stable and adjust the frame in small movements.
- Tighten or settle the hanging point, then check again in the same position.
- Step back only after the level check; viewing from an angle can create a misleading visual tilt.
If it keeps moving
Wire hangers can let a frame settle after release. Let it rest, then repeat the check. If the wall is uneven, use the frame edge as the reference rather than assuming the wall is square.
