How to Hang a Picture Straight Using Your Phone

A frame can look straight from one side of a room and still be tilted. Check the frame edge directly before making the final adjustment.

Before you hang it

  1. Choose the height and lightly mark the wall.
  2. Check that the hanging hardware is suitable for the frame and wall.
  3. Position the frame, but leave enough movement for a final adjustment.

Level the frame

  1. Place the phone’s straight edge along the top edge of the frame, not the wall beside it.
  2. Wait for Stable and adjust the frame in small movements.
  3. Tighten or settle the hanging point, then check again in the same position.
  4. Step back only after the level check; viewing from an angle can create a misleading visual tilt.

If it keeps moving

Wire hangers can let a frame settle after release. Let it rest, then repeat the check. If the wall is uneven, use the frame edge as the reference rather than assuming the wall is square.
